Assistant Scientist – Surgery Department

About the role

The University of Miami’s Department of Surgery is seeking a full‑time Assistant Scientist to support its research agenda. The role involves designing and executing experiments, analyzing data, and contributing to scientific publications. The position works closely with senior staff and contributes to grant proposals.

Key responsibilities

• Design, execute, and analyze basic and applied research experiments.
• Collect, process, and visualize data for manuscripts, presentations, and grant applications.
• Perform animal work in compliance with IACUC protocols, including breeding and tissue collection.
• Write and submit intramural and extramural grant proposals with senior staff approval.
• Prepare scientific publications, technical reports, and patent documentation.
• Manage laboratory equipment, supplies, and experimental data for assigned projects.
• Conduct bioinformatics analyses using publicly available data sources.
• Adhere to university policies, safeguard assets, and ensure compliance with all regulations.

Required profile

• Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent doctoral degree in a relevant scientific field.
• Minimum of 1 year of relevant research experience.
• Strong ability to collect, organize, and analyze scientific data.
• Demonstrated problem‑solving skills and sound judgment in decision‑making.
