Assistant Reading Instructor (ARI) – Classroom Support

About the role

The Assistant Reading Instructor (ARI) supports teachers in delivering basic reading skills and ensures every student can access classroom resources. Working under the guidance of a teacher or principal, the ARI helps maintain an organized, supportive learning environment.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the supervising teacher by handling activities that free them for direct instruction.
• Teach assigned classes at designated times and locations.
• Plan and participate in daily and long‑range lesson activities.
• Guide small groups in independent, enrichment, or remedial work.
• Maintain classroom order, supplies, and educational media.
• Monitor student needs, provide assistance, and escort children as required.
• Support record‑keeping for each child and help with notebook checks and makeup work.
• Supervise children during play periods and assist with educational displays.
• Participate in staff development and uphold district policies on asset use and confidentiality.

Required profile

• Associate degree or higher from an accredited college (minimum 60 credit hours) or successful completion of the Mississippi Work‑Keys test.
• Regular, dependable, and punctual attendance.
• Ability to follow state and board evaluation procedures.
• Physical ability to stand, walk, sit, and use hands for fine manipulation as required.
