About the role

The State of Georgia is seeking an experienced attorney to join the Mountain Judicial Circuit as an Assistant Public Defender IV. This senior‑level position focuses on representing indigent clients in serious criminal matters before the Superior Court in Habersham County.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare, negotiate, and try felony cases, including high‑profile matters.
• Conduct comprehensive legal research and draft complex pleadings, motions, and orders.
• Manage all phases of litigation independently, from investigation to courtroom advocacy.
• Collaborate with investigators, experts, and support staff to build strong defenses.
• Maintain ethical standards and zealous representation for indigent clients.

Required profile

• Juris Doctor from an accredited institution and a license to practice law in Georgia (or eligibility to sit for the bar within one year of hiring).
• At least three years of relevant legal experience, including substantial criminal litigation and jury trial exposure.
• Good standing with the State Bar of Georgia.
• Demonstrated commitment to public defense and indigent representation.
