About the role

The State of Georgia is seeking an Assistant Public Defender (Attorney 1) to represent indigent clients in criminal matters for White County. This full‑time position involves managing complex felony cases from investigation through trial or resolution, ensuring vigorous and ethical representation.

Key responsibilities

• Provide competent, diligent, and zealous legal representation to indigent clients in Superior Court.
• Prepare and present cases, enter pleas, and draft legal documents such as motions, pleadings, and orders.
• Conduct thorough legal research and develop case strategies.
• Handle trial preparation, courtroom advocacy, and post‑trial matters.
• Collaborate with investigators, experts, and other defense staff as needed.

Required profile

• Juris Doctorate from an accredited institution.
• Current membership in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia, or eligibility to sit for the Georgia Bar and obtain licensure within one year of hiring.
• Demonstrated commitment to public defense and ability to manage serious felony cases.
