Assistant Project Manager – Construction

About the role

Laland Baptiste, a certified minority and woman‑owned construction management firm, is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to support the delivery of public‑sector construction projects throughout New York State. The role provides hands‑on experience across the full construction life‑cycle, working closely with design teams, contractors, and owners.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain regular communication with design teams and contractors to monitor project progress.
• Report project status to owners and stakeholders on a consistent basis.
• Review contractor invoices and recommend payments.
• Assess and recommend contract change orders.
• Assist in dispute resolution as needed.
• Coordinate record‑keeping and document control in line with company policies.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, or Construction Management.
• Minimum 2 years of experience on public or private construction projects.
• Experience managing projects or portfolios with a total value of at least $1 million.
• OSHA 30 certification, valid driver’s license, and reliable transportation.
• Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, contracts, and related documents.

Required skills

• Proficiency with project scheduling and critical‑path analysis.
• Project cost management experience.
• Use of project management software such as Procore.
• Strong PC skills: Outlook, Excel, Word, and Bluebeam.
