Assistant Professor of Petroleum Engineering (Drilling)

About the role

Texas A&M International University seeks a tenure‑track Assistant Professor in Petroleum Engineering with a focus on drilling engineering, starting Fall 2027. The position includes a reduced teaching load to support the development of an independent, externally funded research program.

Key responsibilities

• Establish and lead an externally funded research program in drilling engineering.
• Teach drilling engineering courses and associated laboratories, including use of drilling simulation equipment.
• Mentor student research, senior design projects, and supervise graduate work.
• Contribute to other petroleum and engineering courses as needed and support school service, recruitment, and accreditation.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Petroleum Engineering or a closely related discipline by the start date.
• Demonstrated expertise in drilling engineering through research, scholarship, or professional experience.
• Ability to teach drilling courses, manage labs, and mentor students.
• Experience pursuing external research funding and developing industry or government partnerships is desirable.
