Assistant Professor of Petroleum Engineering (Artificial Intelligence)

About the role

Texas A&M International University seeks a tenure‑track Assistant Professor to develop an independent, externally funded research program at the intersection of artificial intelligence and petroleum engineering, beginning Fall 2027.

Key responsibilities

• Establish and lead a research program focused on AI applications in petroleum engineering, securing external funding.
• Design and teach AI‑related petroleum engineering courses for the BS program and contribute to the AI‑themed MS in Systems Engineering.
• Mentor undergraduate and graduate student research projects and senior design teams.
• Participate in recruitment, accreditation, curriculum development, and service to the School of Engineering.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Petroleum Engineering or a closely related discipline by the start date (candidates near completion may be considered).
• Demonstrated expertise in applying artificial intelligence to petroleum engineering through research, scholarship, or professional experience.
• Ability to design and deliver AI‑focused coursework and mentor student research.
• Experience pursuing externally funded research and collaborating with industry partners is highly desirable.

• Artificial Intelligence techniques (e.g., physics‑informed AI, generative AI, digital twins).
• Petroleum engineering fundamentals and optimization methods.
• Research program development and grant writing.
• Teaching and curriculum design in engineering subjects.
