Assistant Professor of Petroleum Engineering (Artificial Intelligence)

About the role

Texas A&M International University seeks a tenure‑track Assistant Professor to develop an independent, externally funded research program at the intersection of artificial intelligence and petroleum engineering, starting Fall 2027.

Key responsibilities

• Establish and lead a research program focused on AI applications in petroleum engineering, including physics‑informed AI, digital twins, and generative AI.
• Design and teach AI‑related petroleum engineering courses for the BS program and contribute to the AI‑themed MS in Systems Engineering.
• Mentor undergraduate and graduate student research projects and senior design teams.
• Support recruitment, accreditation, curriculum development, and service to the School of Engineering.
• Collaborate with industry and government partners on interdisciplinary research initiatives.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Petroleum Engineering or a closely related discipline by the appointment start date.
• Demonstrated expertise in applying artificial intelligence to petroleum engineering challenges.
• Ability to design and deliver AI‑focused coursework and mentor student research.
• Experience pursuing externally funded research and industry collaboration is highly desirable.

• Digital twin development and AI‑enabled reservoir, drilling, or production optimization.
