Assistant Professor of Modern Languages and Literatures – French

About the role

The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at Trinity University in San Antonio is seeking a tenure‑track Assistant Professor of French. The successful candidate will join a vibrant liberal‑arts community and contribute to undergraduate teaching, research, and service.

Key responsibilities

• Teach French at all levels, including language courses and professional French (business, diplomacy).
• Develop and deliver courses on French‑speaking Northern/Sub‑Saharan African and Caribbean literatures and cultures.
• Participate in Trinity’s summer abroad program in Aix‑en‑Provence and other departmental service activities.
• Collaborate on interdisciplinary, cross‑listed courses in English as needed.
• Maintain an active research agenda and contribute to the department’s scholarly community.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in French, Francophone Studies, Comparative Literature, Transnational or Diaspora Studies, or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated expertise in French‑speaking African or Caribbean literatures and cultures.
• Ability and willingness to teach French language courses at the undergraduate level.
• Interest in interdisciplinary collaboration and service to the university.

Required skills

• Strong command of French language and literature.
• Experience designing and teaching undergraduate curricula.
• Research proficiency in relevant literary fields.
