Assistant Professor of Clinical Pathology, Pediatric (Anatomic)

About the role

The University of Miami seeks an Assistant Professor in Clinical Pathology and Laboratory Medicine focused on pediatric anatomic pathology. The faculty member will provide diagnostic services across University of Miami Hospital, Jackson Memorial Hospital and the Sylvester Cancer Comprehensive Center, while contributing to teaching and research missions.

Key responsibilities

• Perform gross examination, tissue sampling, microscopic diagnosis, frozen sections, and autopsies for surgical specimens, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
• Provide 24‑hour call coverage as required by the assigned division.
• Teach pathology residents, fellows, and medical students through lectures, case conferences, and bedside instruction.
• Engage in collaborative basic, clinical, or translational research and pursue external grant funding.
• Participate in departmental quality‑assurance programs and maintain JCAHO, CAP, and CLIA accreditation standards.

Required profile

• Medical Doctor (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) with board certification or eligibility in Anatomic Pathology, Clinical Pathology, or both.
• Florida medical license and eligibility for hospital privileges.
• Strong knowledge of surgical pathology, hematopathology, and laboratory medicine subspecialties.
• Ability to work independently, make definitive diagnostic decisions, and communicate effectively within a diverse team.
• Familiarity with regulations and standards of JCAHO, CAP, and CLIA.
