Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering (Structural Engineering)

About the role

Texas A&M International University seeks a tenure‑track Assistant Professor in Civil Engineering with a focus on Structural Engineering to start Fall 2027. The role involves establishing an independent research program, developing laboratory activities, and teaching core structural courses.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and lead an externally funded research program in structural engineering.
• Contribute to the creation and operation of the School’s structural engineering laboratory.
• Teach Structural Analysis, Reinforced Concrete, Steel Design, and related courses for the BS in Civil Engineering.
• Mentor student research projects and senior design teams.
• Support ABET accreditation efforts, recruitment, and departmental service.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or a closely related field by the start date.
• Demonstrated expertise in structural engineering through research, scholarship, or professional experience.
• Ability to teach core structural courses and develop associated laboratory activities.
• Experience designing and conducting structural experiments, securing external funding, and building industry or government partnerships.
• Progress toward Professional Engineer licensure is highly desirable.
