Assistant Professor, Clinical Pathology & Laboratory Medicine (Microbiology)

About the role

The University of Miami seeks an Assistant Professor to join its Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. The position focuses on clinical pathology and microbiology, supporting high‑complexity laboratory operations, teaching, and research.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with CLIA regulations and maintain quality across pre‑analytic, analytic, and post‑analytic phases.
• Oversee laboratory environment, safety, and biohazard protocols.
• Provide day‑to‑day supervision of testing personnel and ensure accurate reporting of results.
• Maintain adequate staffing levels with qualified, trained personnel.
• Review, validate, and incorporate new test procedures into the laboratory manual.
• Collaborate with clinical teams to deliver reliable diagnoses and patient care.

Required profile

• MD, DO, or PhD with board certification in Clinical Pathology or a related subspecialty.
• Florida medical license or Laboratory Director’s license for the relevant subspecialty.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and make definitive diagnostic recommendations.
• Strong communication skills to interact with a diverse professional workforce.
