Assistant Professor – Biomedical Engineering

About the role

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) is hiring a full‑time, nine‑month tenure‑track Assistant Professor in Biomedical Engineering to begin in Fall 2025. The successful candidate will join a growing department and contribute to teaching, research, and service.

Key responsibilities

• Teach core undergraduate courses in biomedical engineering.
• Develop and deliver advanced courses and laboratory modules aligned with the current curriculum.
• Establish a vibrant, externally funded research program in biomedical engineering or related biomedical sciences.
• Prepare grant proposals and secure research and educational funding.
• Publish research findings in refereed journals and present at professional conferences.
• Participate in departmental, school, university, and community committees.
• Assist with program accreditation activities.
• Advise and mentor undergraduate students.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering or a closely related discipline by the start date.
• Demonstrated excellence in research, innovation, and scholarly publications.
• Commitment to undergraduate teaching and student advising.
• Evidence of strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work collegially with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body.
