Assistant Professor – AI in Agriculture

About the role

Texas A&M AgriLife Research seeks an innovative, dynamic individual for a 12‑month, non‑tenure‑track Assistant Professor position focused on Artificial Intelligence in Agriculture. The role is based at the Blackland Research and Extension Center in Temple, Texas, with academic affiliation to a suitable Texas A&M department.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and lead an externally funded research program applying AI, machine learning, remote sensing, robotics and related digital technologies to agricultural and environmental challenges.
• Secure competitive funding from federal, state, industry and other sources.
• Supervise and mentor postdoctoral researchers, graduate students and technical staff.
• Publish research findings in peer‑reviewed journals and share tools with stakeholders.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in AI, Data Science, Agricultural Engineering, Computer Science or a closely related field by the hire date.
• Strong background in AI, machine learning and data analytics applied to agricultural or environmental systems.
• Evidence of peer‑reviewed publications and potential to obtain external research funding.

Required skills

• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, Java or C++.
• Experience with machine‑learning frameworks/libraries like Pandas, NumPy, TensorFlow or PyTorch.
