Assistant Planning Director

About the role

Centralina Regional Council seeks an experienced planning professional to support the Planning Director in advancing regional initiatives, supervising staff, and fostering partnerships across the Greater Charlotte region.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with departmental leadership, strategic planning, budgeting, and program development.
• Supervise, mentor, and develop planning staff.
• Manage planning projects and provide technical assistance to member governments.
• Lead initiatives in land use, transportation, community and economic development, and environmental planning.
• Develop collaborative relationships with local governments, elected officials, and community organizations.
• Research funding opportunities, prepare grant applications, and oversee grant‑funded projects.
• Coordinate contract administration, project implementation, and compliance activities.
• Prepare and deliver presentations, facilitate meetings, workshops, and public engagement events.

Required profile

• Master's degree in Planning, Public Policy, Urban Design, Public Administration, or related field.
• Seven or more years of professional experience in land use, transportation, community/economic development, or related areas.
• AICP certification preferred and a valid driver’s license required.

What we offer

• Competitive salary $84,000–$107,000 based on experience.
