Assistant Head Chef – School Kitchen (No Nights/Weekends/Holidays)

About the role

The Assistant Head Chef supports the Head Chef in running a high‑volume school kitchen, providing stable weekday hours with weekends and holidays off. This role offers a solid entry point for chefs who want to develop leadership skills while preparing nutritious meals for hundreds of students.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and execute daily preparation of breakfast, lunch, and snacks for 300‑500 students.
• Maintain a food‑safe kitchen, performing quality control on all menu items to ensure consistency.
• Assist the Head Chef with production schedules, inventory management, and consumption tracking.
• Ensure compliance with Department of Health food‑handling procedures and monitor temperatures and storage conditions.

Required profile

• At least 1 year of professional culinary experience in a fast‑paced, high‑volume kitchen.
• Associate degree in culinary arts (preferred).
• Excellent communication and strong organizational skills.
• Availability to work Monday‑Friday, approx. 6:30 am‑2:30 pm.

Required skills

• Food safety and sanitation practices.
• Food Handler’s Certification (or obtain within 90 days, reimbursement available).
• Knowledge of NSLP compliance requirements (preferred).
