Assistant Director of Undergraduate Academic Advising

About the role

The Assistant Director of Undergraduate Academic Advising supports student advising services on Northeastern University's Oakland campus, working closely with the Director of Global Undergraduate Academic Advising.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain a caseload of students, guiding them toward timely degree completion and interpreting academic policies.
• Manage the Oakland Advising team: hire, supervise, mentor, and train Academic Advisors, and oversee student records and advising platforms.
• Collaborate with campus departments (Registrar, Financial Services, Health, Counseling) to develop retention strategies and implement data‑driven advising plans.
• Teach introductory courses, develop syllabi, grade student work, and maintain attendance records.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Social Work, or related field.
• 2‑3 years of advising experience with supervisory responsibilities, including work with diverse student populations.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and strong organizational abilities.

Required skills

• Proficiency with advising technology and various software applications.
• Ability to interpret and explain academic policies and procedures.
