Assistant Director of Production Operations

About the role

The Assistant Director of Production Operations supports the Director of Cafeteria Operations in leading the Food & Child Nutrition Services team. This senior role ensures that central production, catering, mobile dining and retail services align with district objectives and strategic goals.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee Central Kitchen operations, directly supervising the Central Kitchen Manager and Catering Manager and indirectly supervising 30+ staff.
• Audit vending machines, college sites, construction schools, mobile dining solutions, D'Cafe locations and emergency meal sites for quality, customer satisfaction and efficiency.
• Collaborate with the Professional Development Manager to deliver training for supervisory staff.
• Maintain schedules for mobile dining, ensure food trucks meet health department standards, and coordinate with Operations on construction projects.
• Monitor staffing and labor costs across production, catering, mobile and retail operations.
• Develop and implement departmental plans and goals, prepare precise reports, and represent the Director at meetings.
• Provide data‑driven recommendations to improve departmental efficiency and effectiveness.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Institution Management, Hotel & Restaurant Management or a related field.
• At least eight years of supervisory experience in a multi‑unit organization, preferably in school food service.
• Strong knowledge of federal and state sanitation regulations.
• Proven coaching, counseling and conflict‑resolution abilities.
• Excellent judgment, professionalism and customer‑service orientation.
• Ability to protect confidential information and manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
