Assistant Controller

About the role

The Assistant Controller supports the Controller in overseeing the daily operations of the Accounting Department for The Greenbrier and its affiliated entities in White Sulphur Springs, WV. The role manages key accounting functions, supervises transactional accounting staff and ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial records. It is a full-time, exempt position.

Key responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day general ledger accounting with the Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Payroll teams.
• Lead parts of the month-end close, including journal entries, accruals, prepaid expenses, depreciation and inter-company allocations.
• Review balance sheet reconciliations and reconcile daily revenue postings from property management and point-of-sale systems to the general ledger.
• Assist with bank reconciliations, cash reporting and cash application with the Treasury team; maintain fixed asset records and capital project tracking.
• Prepare draft financial statements and supporting schedules, and assist with annual audits and tax filings.
• Supervise accounting staff, act as Controller during absences and improve accounting processes and internal controls.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
• Five or more years of progressive accounting experience, including month-end close.
• Previous supervisory experience or readiness to lead a professional accounting team.
• Preferred: CPA license or active candidate, hospitality/resort accounting experience, USALI knowledge, audit support experience, ERP implementation experience.

Required skills

• Strong GAAP, account reconciliations and internal control knowledge.
• Multientity accounting and inter-company transactions.
• Advanced Excel (pivot tables, lookups, large data analysis).
• Preferred: Sage 100, Opera PMS, Simphony POS.
