Assistant Controller

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Assistant Controller to join a growing finance team in Alabaster, Alabama. This position offers the chance to work in a collaborative environment while playing a key role in financial reporting, operational accounting, and process improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
• Support month‑end and year‑end close processes, ensuring GAAP compliance.
• Prepare and review journal entries and account reconciliations for cash, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, and other balance‑sheet accounts.
• Manage and reconcile quarterly physical inventory counts.
• Perform daily and monthly bank and cash reconciliations.
• Assist with accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, and collections.
• Partner with internal departments to analyze financial data and provide business insights.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and other reporting initiatives.
• Assist with audit preparation and act as liaison to external auditors.
• Help strengthen internal controls and identify process‑improvement opportunities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
• 3+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in manufacturing, distribution, or industrial settings.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting.
• Experience with month‑end close, account reconciliations, and financial analysis.
• Inventory accounting experience is highly preferred.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving abilities.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work cross‑functionally.
