Assistant Attorney General – Civil Rights

About the role

The State of Georgia’s Office of the Attorney General is seeking two Assistant Attorneys General to join the Civil Rights Section of the General Litigation Division. In this position you will represent state officers and employees in federal civil rights actions, providing high‑quality legal representation and advancing the state’s commitment to equal protection.

Key responsibilities

• Litigate federal civil rights cases, including appearing in court, arguing motions, and handling appeals.
• Research and draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and memoranda of legal advice.
• Prepare and respond to discovery requests, and work closely with expert witnesses.
• Provide legal counsel to state agencies and employees, reviewing letters, comments, and briefs.
• Participate in multistate working groups and stay current on legal developments.
• Attend continuing legal education seminars and present findings as required.
• Travel as needed, typically limited.

Required profile

• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
• Member in good standing of the Georgia Bar.
• 1–3 years of litigation experience preferred.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a government environment.
