Assistant Attorney General – Civil Rights

About the role

The State of Georgia’s Office of the Attorney General is seeking an Assistant Attorney General to join the Civil Rights Section of the General Litigation Division. In this position you will represent state officers and employees in federal civil rights actions, providing high‑quality legal advocacy on behalf of the Commonwealth.

Key responsibilities

• Litigate federal civil rights cases, including appearing in court, arguing motions and handling appeals.
• Draft and file pleadings, motions, briefs, and discovery requests and responses.
• Conduct legal research, prepare memoranda of advice, and stay current on relevant case law.
• Collaborate with expert witnesses and coordinate multistate working groups.
• Provide legal counsel to state agencies and employees, reviewing letters, comments, and briefs.
• Attend continuing legal education seminars and present findings as required.

Required profile

• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
• Member in good standing of the Georgia Bar.
• 1–3 years of litigation experience preferred.
• Ability to travel as needed for case matters.
