Assistant Attorney General – Child Support Division (Texas)

About the role

The Office of the Attorney General’s Child Support Division is seeking Assistant Attorneys General to represent the State of Texas in family law matters. You will help ensure children receive the financial and medical support they need while promoting responsible parenting.

Key responsibilities

• Represent Texas in judicial and administrative proceedings to locate, establish, enforce, modify, or terminate child support and medical support orders.
• Provide legal advice, consultation, and technical assistance to the Child Support Program.
• Develop and deliver training for staff and partner agencies.
• Perform related legal work, maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of family law, and ensure confidentiality of sensitive information.
• Comply with agency policies, ethics standards, and work schedule requirements.

Required profile

• J.D. from an accredited law school.
• Licensed to practice law in Texas and in good standing with the State Bar of Texas by the start date.
• Strong knowledge of Texas Family Law and the Texas Family Code.
• Excellent legal writing, mediation, negotiation, and trial advocacy skills.
• Ability to conduct investigations, perform legal research, and draft sound legal opinions.
