Assistant Attorney General - Business & Finance

About the role

The State of Georgia’s Department of Law is seeking an Assistant Attorney General to join the Business and Finance Section of the Commercial Transactions & Litigation Division. This attorney will provide legal counsel on a wide range of business, financial, and property matters affecting state agencies.

Key responsibilities

• Appear in state and federal courts to try cases, argue motions and handle appeals.
• Research legal issues, prepare pleadings, motions, briefs, and discovery requests.
• Work with expert witnesses and participate in settlement negotiations.
• Provide legal advice, draft memoranda, formal opinions, and respond to inquiries from citizens, legislators, and judges.
• Represent agencies such as the Department of Administrative Services, Georgia Lottery Corporation, Department of Community Affairs, and the State Auditor.
• Participate in multistate working groups and attend continuing legal‑education seminars.
• Travel occasionally as required by case matters.

Required profile

• Licensed attorney with experience in business litigation, contract disputes, state procurements, and bond proceedings.
• Ability to conduct thorough legal research and stay current on legal developments.
• Strong written and oral advocacy skills for courtroom and advisory work.
