Assistant Attorney General – Business & Finance

About the role

The State of Georgia is seeking an Assistant Attorney General to join the Business & Finance Section of the Commercial Transactions and Litigation Division. The attorney will primarily handle bankruptcy matters for state agencies and may also engage in broader business litigation.

Key responsibilities

• Litigate Chapter 7, 11, 12, and 13 bankruptcy cases in state and federal courts.
• Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and discovery requests.
• Conduct legal research and stay current on relevant statutes and case law.
• Participate in settlement negotiations and work with expert witnesses.
• Provide legal advice to state agencies, draft memoranda, and issue formal opinions.
• Represent the state in bond proceedings, procurement disputes, and other business-related actions.
• Attend continuing legal education seminars and present findings as required.
• Travel occasionally, primarily within Georgia.

Required profile

• Bar admission and good standing (implied by role).
• Experience in bankruptcy and business litigation.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a legal team.
