ASL Staff Interpreter (4-Day Work Week)

About the role

Translation Excellence, Inc. is hiring a Staff Interpreter reporting to its ASL Services Department Manager. The role delivers precise ASL/English interpretation across Federal Government contracts, private businesses, schools and medical facilities, including on-call duties, training sessions, platform interpreting, Video Remote Interpreting and one-on-one or small-group meetings. It is a full-time position with a 4-day work week (Monday to Thursday).

Key responsibilities

• Provide proficient sign language interpretation and translation for clients, following ASL/English interpreting protocols.
• Work with clients, TE personnel and service providers to remove obstacles such as instructional material issues.
• Follow TE standards and policies and the RID Code of Professional Conduct, including strict confidentiality.
• Take part in staff meetings, promotional events and conferences.
• Perform special assignments and represent the company at industry events and conferences.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree and at least 3 years of experience as a certified sign language interpreter.
• Active RID National Certification, with compliance with any national, state or local licensure or certification requirements.
• Reliable transportation between work sites and ability to obtain a US Secret Clearance (with sponsorship).
• Willingness to be assigned to most customer contracts in the Washington Metro Area and to travel locally (Maryland, DC, northern Virginia) and up to 25% domestic or overseas travel.

Required skills

• Proficiency in American Sign Language, Signed English, fingerspelling and non-manual expression.
• Knowledge of the American Deaf community and current interpreting trends and techniques.
• Familiarity with the RID Code of Professional Conduct, the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
• Ability to interpret accurately for executive-level clients and to keep detailed records.
