About the role

The Applied Research Laboratory for Intelligence & Security (ARLIS) at the University of Maryland seeks qualified candidates to join its multidisciplinary AI research team. The position supports government‑sponsored projects that advance trusted AI, human‑machine teaming, and national‑security decision making.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct applied research in artificial intelligence, machine learning, data analytics, and computational modeling.
• Design, develop, and evaluate algorithms, models, and prototypes for structured and unstructured data, including multimodal and real‑time streams.
• Investigate AI assurance topics such as interpretability, adversarial robustness, and policy implications.
• Collaborate with behavioral scientists, domain experts, and systems engineers on interdisciplinary projects.
• Prepare technical deliverables, briefings, and research proposals for government stakeholders.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, Data Science, Psychology, Linguistics, Business, Social Sciences).
• Strong analytical mindset with the ability to work on complex, security‑focused problems.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical and non‑technical audiences.
