Applications Engineer, Autonomy (Open Level)

About the role

Shield AI is a venture-backed defense-tech company whose products include Hivemind autonomy software, aircraft and simulation technologies. Its Applications Engineers are highly technical, customer-facing problem solvers who deploy Hivemind software in real-world environments. This is primarily a senior-level role, open to exceptional mid-level engineers, and involves frequent, often international, on-site travel.

Key responsibilities

• Work with customers to understand their requirements and provide technical expertise during deployment and integration of AI and autonomy products
• Deploy with customers on site globally (up to 25% travel) to support software integration and development
• Become an expert user of the Hivemind enterprise software stack and its autonomy modules
• Provide technical support and training to customers
• Develop AI and autonomy applications using the Shield AI enterprise software development kit
• Support pre-sales activities such as demos, conferences and immersions, and post-sales deployment and integration
• Develop and maintain technical documentation and training materials
• Help customers debug software and API integration issues
• Work with the product engineering team to address customer feedback and improve products

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science or a related field
• 5+ years of industry experience, including 2+ years in an integration/applications engineering role and 2+ years in a startup environment
• Strong technical background in software engineering
• Passion for autonomy, robotics or aerospace

Required skills

• Strong proficiency in modern C++
• Intermediate proficiency in Python
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred: experience in defense aviation or robotics, experience leading a small software solutions engineering team, and an advanced degree in robotics or autonomy. Salary ranges are given for Senior Engineer, Staff Engineer and Senior Staff Engineer levels.
