Anesthesiology Research Assistant Professor

About the role

The Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Miami seeks a faculty member to lead translational research on Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) based therapeutics for chronic neurological disorders, with an emphasis on non‑opioid chronic pain treatments.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and lead competitive research projects focused on HSV gene therapy.
• Design, write, and submit grant proposals to secure substantial external funding.
• Publish findings in high‑impact peer‑reviewed journals and present at national and international conferences.
• Teach assigned courses and mentor residents, fellows, students, and junior faculty.
• Collaborate with department faculty to support their research development and funding efforts.
• Participate in departmental, institutional, and external committees.

Required profile

• PhD, MD, or equivalent with extensive training in HSV gene therapy, microbiology, physiology, pharmacology, molecular biology, and animal models of disease.
• Demonstrated track record of obtaining research funding within the past three years.
• Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
• Ability to teach and mentor at the graduate and professional levels.
