Aircraft Mechanic - Powerplant (VMG)

About the role

Amentum is hiring an Aircraft Mechanic-Powerplant (VMG) to perform organizational, intermediate and limited depot-level maintenance on assigned aircraft, components and equipment. The role covers inspection, operational testing, repair, modification and troubleshooting of power plant systems, and provides technical guidance to other employees. Work is usually done in a hangar, shop or flight-line environment.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain aircraft main, auxiliary and secondary power systems, fuel systems, engine-level and bleed air components
• Troubleshoot and test power plant systems, replace or repair fuel controls, fuel pumps, oil pumps, engine-mounted gearboxes and compressor bleed valves
• Remove engines, inspect parts for wear, cracks or defects, repair or replace them, then reassemble and install the engine
• Read and interpret blueprints, technical directives, test specifications, procedures and safety manuals
• May be required to perform off-site service on assigned detachments

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent, with at least three years of experience
• Experience in corrosion detection, treatment and prevention
• Recent experience with F-18A-F, EA-18G, E-2C or F-16A-B aircraft
• Valid state driver's license and ability to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government clearance (US citizenship required)
• Prior military members must present a DD214 with an honorable discharge
• Ability to work all assigned shifts and schedules

Required skills

• NALCOMIS/OOMA training preferred
• Support equipment operator's license (tow tractor, N2 servicing trailer and mobile start unit at a minimum)
• Fuel surveillance training and engine run (1 T/M/S minimum)
• Preferred: hazardous waste communication, FOD and TCP awareness, ORM training, aircraft towing certification, aircraft brake rider certification, and plane captain qualification
