Aircraft Mechanic III

About the role

Aircraft Mechanic III at Edwards performs inspection, maintenance and troubleshooting on assigned aircraft, including KC-46 aircraft where possible. The role covers routine servicing, inspections, repairs and coordination with the operational customer, QA and the government.

Key responsibilities

• Follow Technical Orders, SOPs, Air Force Instructions and other directives, and troubleshoot complex maintenance problems with other mechanics and technical representatives.
• Plan and schedule aircraft utilization and maintenance, maintain accurate parts inventory and assign and monitor repair tasks.
• Oversee and perform aircraft jacking, lifting, towing, and component and aircraft inspections, including preflight, in-flight, post-flight and phase inspections, and sign off aircraft safe for flight.
• Repair and maintain electro-mechanical systems, remove and install components, and coordinate IPIs and MGIs with QA and the government.
• Complete aircraft forms and maintenance documentation before the end of each shift, order parts through the Air Force supply system, and assist with the Base Emergency Management Program.
• Drive on the flightline, notify the government when aircraft are crew ready, conduct aircrew debriefs, and assist in on-the-job training of mechanics and technicians.

Required profile

• At least 12 years of aircraft maintenance experience, including compliance with servicing procedures, maintenance manuals and parts catalogs; KC-46 experience preferred.
• Current FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) license preferred.
• Broad knowledge of aircraft maintenance, inspection techniques, FAA regulations and Air Force technical publications.
• Leadership ability, attention to detail, and knowledge of maintenance categories and limitations.
• Current state driver's license and ability to obtain and maintain Secret clearance; U.S. citizenship required for credentials at the site.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work outdoors in noise, low light and inclement weather.
