AI Engineer - SAP S/4HANA & Joule

About the role

Scotts Miracle-Gro is migrating to SAP S/4HANA and needs a senior AI Engineer to establish the AI layer from day one. You will build Joule assistants and agents, design AI workflows on SAP Business Technology Platform, and turn SAP Business Data Cloud products into intelligent experiences.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate Joule assistants and agents that automate finance, supply chain, R&D, procurement, manufacturing, and HR workflows in S/4HANA.
• Create agentic experiences on SAP Business Data Cloud data products, enabling RAG, decision‑support, and action‑taking agents.
• Architect and deploy AI workflows using SAP BTP AI Core, AI Launchpad, Generative AI Hub, HANA Cloud Vector Engine, and Build Process Automation.
• Champion a fit‑to‑standard approach, extending SAP via side‑by‑side extensibility, key‑user tools, and standard APIs.
• Partner with functional and data leads to translate business processes into agent capabilities, prompts, and guardrails.
• Define reference architecture for prompt engineering, model selection, evaluation, observability, and human‑in‑the‑loop review.
• Implement responsible‑AI controls such as data classification, PII handling, role‑based access, and audit trails.
• Lead the AI workstream of the S/4HANA migration, including sandbox experiments, MVPs, hypercare, and ongoing AI delivery.
• Mentor analysts, developers, and functional teams on responsible use of Joule, GenAI, and agent patterns.

Required profile

• 8+ years of overall engineering experience.
• At least 3 years building production AI/ML/GenAI solutions in an enterprise setting.
• Hands‑on experience with SAP S/4HANA (public or private cloud preferred) and understanding of fit‑to‑standard ERP delivery.
• Optional experience designing and building with SAP Joule.
