AI Engineer

About the role

The University of Maryland’s Division of Information Technology is seeking an AI Engineer to design, develop, and deploy production‑grade AI solutions. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary engineering team to build scalable frameworks that support the university’s research, teaching, and operational missions.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement AI applications from concept to production.
• Develop and maintain scalable AI frameworks on Azure cloud.
• Manage tasks and milestones using Jira, ensuring timely project updates.
• Automate, test, monitor, and release software in a DevOps environment.
• Handle data management, queues, asynchronous processing, and system reliability.
• Support generative AI and Retrieval‑Augmented Generation (RAG) solutions, including knowledge‑base administration, document ingestion, indexing, and vector data stores.

Required profile

• Proven experience delivering AI projects on schedule.
• Strong data‑management abilities and understanding of Machine Learning and AI principles.
• Hands‑on experience with Azure cloud services and DevOps practices.
• Familiarity with Jira for task tracking.
• Willingness to work evenings, weekends, or shifts during emergencies.
