Advanced Practice Registered Nurse – Orthopaedics (Per Diem)

About the role

The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse – Orthopaedics (Per Diem) provides comprehensive patient care in orthopaedic settings at the University of Miami. Working independently and collaboratively, the APRN conducts examinations, orders and interprets diagnostic tests, prescribes treatments, and supports patients through recovery.

Key responsibilities

• Perform complete physical examinations and comprehensive health histories.
• Conduct age‑appropriate history and physical assessments for patients.
• Order and interpret diagnostic and therapeutic tests based on patient needs.
• Prescribe appropriate pharmacologic and non‑pharmacologic treatment modalities.
• Implement interventions to maintain or regain physiologic stability.
• Monitor the effectiveness of interventions and adjust care plans as needed.
• Facilitate patient transitions, including admission, transfer, and discharge.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members and make appropriate referrals.
• Provide education and decision‑making tools to patients, families, and staff.
• Ensure compliance with facility, state, and federal regulations.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in a relevant nursing field.
• Valid State of Florida APRN license.
• Minimum two years of relevant clinical experience.
• Ability to exercise sound clinical judgment and make critical decisions.
• Strong attention to detail and accurate documentation skills.
• Capacity to prioritize workload under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
