Advanced Practice Registered Nurse – Ophthalmology & Refractive Surgery

About the role

The University of Miami seeks an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) specialized in ophthalmology, corneal and refractive surgery. The APRN will deliver comprehensive medical care, perform examinations, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct complete physical examinations and detailed health histories for patients of all ages.
• Order, interpret, and act upon diagnostic and therapeutic tests relevant to ophthalmic care.
• Prescribe pharmacologic and non‑pharmacologic treatments, including medication management.
• Implement interventions to maintain or restore physiologic stability.
• Facilitate patient transitions across care settings, including admissions, transfers, and discharges.
• Collaborate with physicians and other health professionals, making appropriate referrals.
• Provide education and decision‑making support to patients, families, and staff.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in nursing with an approved ARNP curriculum.
• Florida licensure as an ARNP and board certification from a nationally accredited organization (e.g., ANCC, AANP).
• Minimum of 2 years of relevant clinical experience.
• Strong judgment, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize under pressure.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
