Advanced Practice Registered Nurse – Hematology & Sickle Cell

About the role

The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Hematology, Sickle Cell seeks an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) to provide comprehensive care to hematology patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings. The APP works independently and collaboratively with physicians, delivering diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management for complex hematologic conditions.

Key responsibilities

• Perform complete physical examinations, obtain comprehensive health histories, and document findings.
• Order, interpret, and act upon diagnostic and therapeutic tests appropriate to patient age and condition.
• Prescribe pharmacologic and non‑pharmacologic treatments, including medications and blood products.
• Conduct specialized procedures such as bone marrow biopsies, lumbar punctures, Ommaya reservoir access, PICC line removals, and skin biopsies when competency is met.
• Coordinate patient transitions across care settings, manage symptom control, and support clinical research protocols.

Required profile

• Valid State of Florida APRN (or PA) license and board certification.
• Minimum two years of hematology experience as an Advanced Practice Provider.
• Master’s degree in a relevant nursing field.
• CITI certification (or obtain within three months of hire), BLS and ACLS certifications.

Required skills

• Prescribing medications and ordering diagnostic tests.
• Performing bone marrow biopsies, lumbar punctures, Ommaya reservoir access, PICC line removals, and skin biopsies.
• Clinical research coordination and protocol implementation.
• BLS and ACLS life support skills.
