Advanced Practice Provider – Medicine Inpatient/Outpatient Hep/GI

About the role

The University of Miami seeks a qualified Advanced Practice Provider (APRN or Physician Assistant) to deliver comprehensive care to hepatology and gastroenterology patients across inpatient and outpatient settings. This position involves direct patient assessment, treatment planning, and coordination of clinical research.

Key responsibilities

• Assess physical and psychosocial status of patients in both inpatient and outpatient environments.
• Conduct interviews, health histories, physical examinations, and interpret diagnostic studies for GI/Hep patients.
• Round independently and collaboratively on the Hepatology Inpatient Service, ensuring sign‑out with fellows.
• Write prescriptions, order labs, and manage infusion orders according to protocol.
• Initiate and facilitate clinical research protocols and coordinate with research staff.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans for patients and families.
• Participate in quality assurance, peer review, and staff triage activities.

Required profile

• Current APRN or Physician Assistant license with Acute Care Certification.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Willingness to rotate on inpatient service M‑F and cover outpatient clinics across multiple UHealth locations.
• Strong clinical judgment and ability to recognize deviations in physical assessments.

Required skills

• Acute Care Certification.
• Prescribing authority for medications and blood products.
• Proficiency in ordering and interpreting laboratory and imaging studies.
• Experience with infusion therapy protocols (non‑chemo).
• Clinical research coordination skills.
