Admissions Clerk – Emergency & Inpatient Services

About the role

The Admissions Clerk supports patient flow at Palestine Regional Medical Center by handling registration, documentation, and communication for inpatient, outpatient, and emergency department admissions. This position ensures accurate demographic, billing, and insurance information while providing courteous service to patients and their families.

Key responsibilities

• Register patients for scheduled and unscheduled admissions, outpatient procedures, and emergency visits.
• Verify and collect demographic, insurance, and billing data; obtain pre‑authorizations as needed.
• Distribute and explain forms and educational materials to patients or caregivers.
• Coordinate with physician offices, nursing units, and other departments to streamline the admissions process.
• Collect co‑pays, deductibles, and other payments; refer patients to financial counseling when appropriate.
• Maintain accurate records of interactions and actions taken.
• Participate in call rotations to ensure desk coverage.
• Uphold HIPAA and confidentiality policies and keep the workspace clean and sanitized.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Prior experience in a hospital or medical office setting preferred.
• Ability to work independently in a fast‑paced environment.
• Strong attention to detail and excellent customer‑service orientation.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
