Job description

About the role

Oliver Wyman's US Property and Casualty (P&C) Actuarial Consulting Practice is hiring an Actuarial Modeling & Technical Lead for its Actuarial Modeling, Analytics & Transformation team. The role focuses on hands-on development, validation and operationalization of actuarial models and workflows, turning actuarial and business requirements into production-ready code and tools. It works closely with engineering to deliver auditable, reproducible solutions. The position is full-time, hybrid or remote, with a flexible location, preferably in the US/Canada (New York, Chicago, Montreal).

Key responsibilities

  • Build, test, document and maintain actuarial logic implemented in code (Python/R) or modeling platforms, with reproducible, version-controlled workflows.
  • Design and implement end-to-end actuarial workflows across pricing, reserving, underwriting and claims analytics, including developer-ready specifications and technical documentation.
  • Leverage AI-assisted development tools, cloud platforms and machine learning to improve modeling, code generation, automated testing and documentation while keeping actuarial governance and correctness.
  • Perform exploratory data analysis, validate data pipelines (SQL, Databricks, Azure) and turn complex datasets into client-ready reporting, dashboards and visualizations.
  • Act as liaison between actuarial subject matter experts and engineering teams: translate specifications into technical requirements, review implementations and validate them with unit and integration tests.
  • Contribute to practice tooling and best practices, and represent the practice at industry events.

Required profile

  • Fellowship in a recognized actuarial body (e.g. FCAS/FIA) or equivalent senior actuarial qualification.
  • 3+ years of P&C actuarial experience in consulting or insurance with hands-on work in pricing, reserving or claims analytics.
  • Demonstrated experience building predictive models (regression, GLM/GMB-type, advanced machine learning) for frequency, severity, loss cost and other actuarial use cases.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to translate complex technical work into clear business recommendations.
  • Intellectual curiosity, self-motivation and the ability to meet tight deadlines in a client-facing consulting environment.

Required skills

  • Strong technical skills with actuarial tools; Python, R or SQL are advantageous.
  • Git/GitHub and Databricks preferred.
  • A plus: familiarity with Azure ML and ML Ops, visualization tools (Power BI, matplotlib/ggplot) and dashboarding.

What we offer

  • Base salary range of $100k-$150k USD, depending on experience, skills, location, certifications and education.
  • Performance-based pay program with year-end bonuses.
  • Health and welfare benefits, tuition assistance, 401K and other retirement programs, and employee assistance programs.
