Accounting Technician

About the role

The Accounting Technician supports the agency by classifying accounting transactions, maintaining and reconciling accounts, closing accounts, and preparing financial reports. This position analyzes accounting data and examines accounts to identify trends and issues.

Key responsibilities

• Classify and validate accounting transactions.
• Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts.
• Close accounts and prepare financial statements and reports.
• Analyze accounting data to detect trends and problems.
• Use accounting system software and spreadsheets to resolve transaction issues.

Required profile

• Must meet the closing date of 06/16/2026.
• Time‑in‑grade requirement: 52 weeks at GS‑05 for a GS‑06 appointment.
• One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS‑05 level, including accounting principles, transaction validation, and account analysis.
• Volunteer experience that provides relevant accounting competencies is acceptable.

Required skills

• Proficiency with accounting software applications.
• Ability to work with spreadsheets for data analysis.
