Accountant – Financial Operations

About the role

We are seeking an Accountant to support day‑to‑day financial operations for our organization in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The role blends core accounting duties with financial support for members and chapters, requiring strong attention to detail and the ability to juggle multiple priorities.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee accounts payable, reviewing and processing vendor payments.
• Prepare payroll‑related journal entries and perform reconciliations.
• Reconcile bank accounts and designated funds, investigating variances.
• Record monthly journal entries and support month‑end and year‑end close activities.
• Track cash movements and maintain accurate financial documentation.
• Process membership deposits, credit‑card payments, and donation transactions.
• Respond to payment inquiries, issue refunds or adjustments, and provide financial support to chapters and coordinators.
• Prepare and submit state tax filings and nonprofit returns, ensuring compliance.
• Partner with external auditors and tax advisors by providing schedules and supporting documentation.

Required profile

• Experience in staff accounting or a similar role handling transaction processing and reconciliations.
• Working knowledge of journal entries, general ledger activity, and month‑end close procedures.
• Practical experience with tax‑related work, such as state filings or sales tax.
• Ability to reconcile multiple bank accounts and manage high‑volume transactions.
• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and deadline orientation.
