Academic Success Coach I

About the role

The Academic Success Coach I supports undergraduate students at Texas A&M University‑Texarkana by providing academic advising, course planning, and professional guidance. This role builds meaningful relationships, proactively addresses barriers to success, and serves as an advocate for students throughout their university experience.

Key responsibilities

• Provide academic advising for all undergraduate students, including course selection, registration, goal setting, and retention support.
• Monitor student progress, intervene with students who receive academic alerts, and coordinate retention programs and outreach initiatives.
• Collaborate with campus partners to develop and implement student‑centered interventions and career exploration resources.
• Maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA and university policies while serving on committees that promote student success.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent education/experience.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to work cooperatively in a team‑oriented environment and handle sensitive information confidentially.

Required skills

• Proficiency with word processing applications.
• Proficiency with spreadsheet applications.
• Experience using database applications for student data management.
