3rd Shift Inspector of Tooling and Machined Parts

About the role

Moog is seeking a 3rd Shift Inspector to ensure the quality of tooling and machined parts in its Blacksburg facility. The role involves interpreting complex drawings, performing precise inspections, and supporting continuous improvement on the production floor.

Key responsibilities

• Interpret complex drawings and process instructions to inspect machined parts with compound angles and three‑dimensional projections.
• Conduct first‑article inspections on machined, molded, and capsule hardware, as well as first‑piece inspections on tooling.
• Write, certify, and execute programs for Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) and Optical Vision Systems.
• Operate CMM and Optical Vision Systems at an advanced level for dimensional inspection.
• Assist in training personnel on CMM and Optical Vision System inspection procedures.
• Measure parts directly on machinery and maintain all gauging setups, including gage blocks and electronic height gauges.
• Complete inspection documentation, including non‑conforming material reports.
• Collaborate with shop personnel, production operators, coaches, and managers to maintain positive working relationships.
• Participate in cross‑training, continuous improvement initiatives, and perform other duties as assigned, including overtime when required.

Required profile

• High School diploma or GED preferred, with ability to follow verbal, written, and computer instructions in English.
• Completion of at least one year of an approved vocational program in Machine Technology or equivalent (ATDM graduates encouraged).
• Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to work with machine shop technology.
• Proficiency in general math, including fractions, decimals, and simple formulas.
• Physical ability to lift at least 50 lb, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Knowledge of blueprint reading and geometric tolerances.
