2027 Future Talent Program - Vivarium Intern

About the role

The 2027 Future Talent Program offers internships of up to 12 weeks within Merck's Research and Development Division, with one or more projects. The Vivarium internship takes place at the company's Research Laboratories in West Point, PA, under the general supervision of the Director/Senior Director and Vivarium Managers. Laboratory Animals Resources (LAR) advances drug candidates by helping define the non-clinical safety and selectivity of lead compounds, and supports drug registration with regulatory questions.

Key responsibilities

• Take part in the Vivarium program covering a range of laboratory animal species
• Assist with clinical cases and monitor infectious diseases
• Coordinate husbandry and aspects of personnel management
• Collaborate with ongoing in vivo drug discovery and development projects, including special projects that improve laboratory animal care or use
• Prepare and present a final report on training and research experience

Required profile

• Currently enrolled in an accredited Veterinary Medical program, or pursuing an AS/BS/MS in Animal Science, Biology, Pharmacology or a related discipline
• Available for 10-12 weeks starting May 2027
• Preferred: ALAT certification, in-vivo laboratory experience and in-vivo husbandry experience
