Youth Sports Coach & Mentor

About the role

The Youth Sports Coach & Mentor will work directly with teenage and elementary‑aged youth in Baltimore City, using sports as a platform to develop life‑skills such as teamwork, communication, discipline and leadership.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, set up and lead sports practices, skills‑development sessions, fitness activities and games.
• Mentor youth, build positive relationships and reinforce healthy decision‑making.
• Develop teenage participants as youth coaches by teaching coaching, communication and leadership skills, observing their sessions and providing feedback.
• Design and pilot an elementary‑aged sports outreach initiative in Sandtown/West Baltimore, including activity planning, equipment coordination and program evaluation.
• Support existing 10:12 Sports programs (football, basketball, year‑round mentoring, summer programming, youth leadership activities).

Required profile

• Eligibility for the Coach Across America/AmeriCorps program and ability to complete a 1,700‑hour service term.
• Strong interest in mentoring and coaching youth through sports.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with youth, families, staff and community partners.
• Reliable, mature, professional with good judgment and willingness to receive feedback.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule averaging 35‑40 hours per week, including evenings and occasional weekends.
• Pass background checks and complete required training.
