Writing Consultant III

About the role

The Writing Consultant III provides advanced one‑on‑one tutoring and consultation to graduate students, helping them improve their writing, speaking, and audio/video communication skills. Working under general supervision, the consultant also manages an academic resources website and collects annual reporting statistics.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver advanced tutoring on writing, speaking, and audio/video skills for graduate students.
• Consult with classes and departments on writing or audio/video matters.
• Review and provide constructive feedback on graduate student submissions, including theses and journal articles.
• Guide students through topic selection, proposal development, and thesis completion.
• Assist with formatting, compliance, and preparation of dissertations and theses.
• Maintain a website with academic resources for graduate students.
• Collect and report annual statistics for the Graduate School.
• Participate in Graduate School meetings and professional development activities.
• Travel to conferences to represent the Graduate School.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
• At least four years of experience as a writer, editor, writing instructor, or tutor, including work with graduate‑level dissertations and theses.
• Experience facilitating writing groups and providing individual coaching.
• Strong verbal and written communication abilities.

• Proficiency with word processing applications.
