Weekend Announcer - Part Time (WMZQ)

About the role

iHeartMedia is hiring weekend and fill-in talent for its iHeart Country station WMZQ in Washington, DC (Rockville, MD). The announcer creates, produces and announces topics such as music, entertainment, politics, news, weather, sports and traffic, and works part time.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver newscasts, announce the radio playlist, give weather and traffic conditions, and deliver sport scores, statistics and game information.
• Comment on music and other topics of interest to the audience, and may interview musical personalities and listeners.
• Typically specialize in one type of music (classical, pop, rock, country and western, etc.).
• Write, review and edit news copy, introductions, public service announcements, commercials, pre-recorded reports and contests.
• Take part in promotional events and may operate the control board for studios and remote programming.
• May sell advertising space directly to advertisers, regulate program timing, run syndicated programming and play commercials.
• Monitor the quality of on-air programming, censor live programs to protect the station's license, process time-outs and check studio equipment.
• Handle emergency inserts such as news updates, breaking stories and alert system tests.

Required profile

• 1-2 years' experience as an announcer in a smaller market or college station environment.
• 4-year college degree, preferably in Communications or Broadcast Journalism.
• Socially informed, up-to-date on local and national trends, with a pleasant, well-controlled voice and excellent pronunciation.
• Good interviewing and communication skills, and excellent writing and editing with good grammar.
• Proficiency in media production and broadcast systems; selling skills and another language (e.g. Spanish) may be required.
