Water Meter Installer

About the role

Bermex provides meter reading and metering solutions to utilities across the United States, including leak detection, line location and water, gas and electric meter reading. The Water Meter Installer reports to the Smart Meter Deployment Operations Manager and plays a key role in water meter maintenance and measurement. The job involves a lot of walking in outdoor conditions, excellent time management and day-to-day flexibility.

Key responsibilities

• Perform visual inspections of water service for leaks and identify hazards at meter sites, reporting them
• Change out water meters of varying sizes and brands, and change out water meter registers for AMI/AMR upgrades
• Read water meters and enter field data into a handheld computer
• Refer consumer complaints to the appropriate authorities and give customers general information about meter services
• Communicate using phones, tablets and computers, and assist on other projects as needed

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED; must be 18 or older
• One year of continuous work with the same employer, or six months of work (employees are trained)
• Valid driver's license
• Nice to have: one or more years of experience exchanging water meters and registers of varying sizes
• Drug and alcohol testing is required; DOT testing applies to gas meter workers

Required skills

• Ability to multi-task, work independently and adapt to flexible schedules, including nights and weekends
• Good time management to finish daily meter reads on time
• Communication skills, including with unhappy customers
• Attention to detail and basic knowledge of GIS systems and principles
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs
