Wage & Hour Investigator I – Fair Labor Division

About the role

The Attorney General’s Fair Labor Division is seeking a motivated Wage & Hour Investigator I to enforce Massachusetts wage‑and‑hour laws. The investigator will examine complaints, conduct site visits, and support enforcement actions that protect workers’ rights.

Key responsibilities

• Review and investigate violations of M.G.L. Chapter 149, Chapter 151 and related statutes.
• Interview employees, employers, and representatives; prepare detailed reports.
• Conduct site visits and payroll audits; analyze financial records for compliance.
• Testify at civil and criminal hearings and before grand juries.
• Support enforcement of child‑labor, prevailing‑wage, and other labor standards as needed.

Required profile

• At least two years of full‑time (or equivalent part‑time) experience in inspection, investigatory work, or wage‑and‑hour law enforcement.
• Valid Massachusetts Class D driver’s license.
• Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in a related field may substitute for experience.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and communication abilities.
• Commitment to public interest and ability to engage with diverse communities.
