Violations Coordinator - Affordable Housing

About the role

Fairstead, a real estate firm focused on affordable housing, is looking for a Violations and Compliance Coordinator to handle NYC agency laws, regulations and violations affecting its portfolio of properties. The role consolidates large amounts of data from many sources so the Property Management team can stay on top of compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and track progress on all portfolio-wide compliance items.
• Track and ensure completion of annual and periodic facility inspections such as window guards, fire safety, boilers, elevator records, sprinkler/standpipes and other required inspections.
• Ensure façade (FISP), sprinkler, backflow, boiler, fire extinguisher and standpipe inspections are carried out and code compliant.
• Manage and lead the close-out of violations, including tracking and periodic internal reporting.
• Research building violations listed on each property (FDNY, DOB, ECB, DOMH, DEP, etc.).
• Monitor commercial tenants' compliance with their lease obligations.
• Perform additional administrative work and duties as assigned to support the Property Management team.

Required profile

• Property management experience with a focus on facilities compliance, or a background in expediting.
• Experience managing complaints and removing violations in NYC.
• Experience closing out permits and violations.
• Knowledge of HPD, DOB, ECB procedures, guidelines and hearings, and FDNY and DHCR procedures.
• Ability to handle violations, certificates of corrections, hearings, submissions and court cases at once.
• Strong written and verbal communication and organizational skills.
